Tullynally Castle & Gardens
Republic of Ireland, Ireland
Tullynally Castle & Gardens, also known as Pakenham Hall, is a grand Gothic Revival castle in County Westmeath, Ireland, and has been the home of the Pakenham family, later the Earls of Longford, for more than 350 years.
The estate began as a 17th-century house and was transformed into a castle-like residence in the early 19th century with towers, battlements, and impressive interiors. The estate is renowned for its extensive gardens, which include woodland walks, walled gardens, ornamental lakes, rare trees, and themed areas such as Chinese and Tibetan-inspired gardens.
Set on the “Hill of the Swan,” it also overlooks Lough Derravaragh, a lake linked to the famous Irish legend of the Children of Lir. Today, Tullynally is one of Ireland’s finest privately owned historic estates. Visitors can explore the beautifully maintained gardens and, on guided tours, discover the castle’s rich history, architecture, and the stories of the family who have lived there for generations.
