Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan
Turan is a village and municipality in the Şəki (Shaki) Rayon of Azerbaijan, located in the northeastern Caucasus about 40 kilometers southwest of the city of Shaki.
Formerly known as Orconikidze until 1999, it was renamed Turan, a non-Indo-European word meaning “people of the land” in the local Oghuz language, and has a population of around 1,796 residents. The settlement is a typical rural community in the region, with no major historical monuments, castles, or tourist landmarks widely documented, and is primarily mentioned in geographic and administrative lists of Azerbaijan’s villages rather than as a notable heritage site.
