Unye Fortress
Turkey, Turkey
Ünye Fortress, also known as Ünye Castle, is a historic ruined castle perched on a steep 200-meter-high crag about 7 km inland from Ünye town in Ordu Province, Turkey's Black Sea region.
Founded by the Pontic Kingdom around 200-250 BC under Mithridates II and later rebuilt by the Byzantines, it features Hellenistic rock-cut tombs with Doric-style entrances and a lion relief, alongside medieval walls blending Byzantine, Genoese, and Ottoman influences.
Restored in recent years, the site offers stunning views and showcases the area's layered defensive history from ancient Pontus to later empires.
