Urbiztondo Beach is a 2-kilometer stretch of dark volcanic sand in San Juan, La Union, known as the surfing capital of northern Philippines and the heart of La Union’s surf culture, making it one of the most popular beach destinations in Northern Luzon.

The beach features consistent year-round waves that are generally 0.5 to 2 meters high, perfect for beginners and intermediates learning to surf in warm tropical waters, with surf schools and board rentals readily available along the shore. During peak season from October to March, when the northeast monsoon brings more consistent swells, waves can reach 8 to 10 feet, and the beach breaks over stable sandbars with no rocks or coral, making it safe for surfers of all levels.

Beyond surfing, Urbiztondo offers golden sand, clear blue waters, stunning West Philippine Sea views, and a vibrant food and nightlife scene with beachfront cafés, trendy bars, restaurants serving Filipino comfort food to wood-fired pizza, plus evening bonfires and acoustic sessions. Located just 5–6 hours from Manila by direct bus from Cubao or Pasay terminal on the main road in San Juan, the beach has transformed from a fishing village into a lively surf hub while maintaining its laid-back, welcoming charm and affordable prices for travelers.
