Vitali Island
Zamboanga City, Philippines, Philippines
Vitali Island, also known as Limaong Island, is the largest of the 28 offshore islands that belong to Zamboanga City in the Philippines, lying in the Moro Gulf about 56 kilometers northeast of the city center.
It covers roughly 10,000 to 12,000 acres, with a coastline of mostly rocky cliffs and a relatively flat interior, connected to the mainland by a bridge that replaced an older wooden one around 2017.
The island is made up of two main barangays and has a small population of just over 7,000 people, mostly Muslim fishermen from the Sama, Tausug, and Yakan groups, alongside Christian settlers from other parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula.
Life on Vitali is centered on fishing and small-scale farming, with a local, low‑development feel, while the eastern mangrove area is protected and contributes to the island’s coastal ecology.
