The Vologodskiy Kreml' in Vologda, Russia, is a historic fortified complex begun in 1565-1567 under Ivan the Terrible's orders as a massive stone citadel twice the size of Moscow's Kremlin, intended as his northern oprichnina residence, though construction halted abruptly after his 1571 departure.

Only partial southeastern walls and towers were completed in stone, supplemented by wooden fortifications that withstood Polish raids in 1612 before gradual decay and dismantling by the 1820s for urban reuse.

Today's surviving core is the 17th-century Archbishop's Court (Arkhiyereyskiy Dvor) with treasures like the 1568-1570 cream-colored Sofiysky Cathedral, Economic Building (1659), Simonovsky Chancellery (1671), and Baroque Joseph Building (1769), now housing the Vologda Museum with icons, archaeology, and art amid landscaped grounds.
