Warta Bolesławiecka
Poland, Poland
Warta Bolesławiecka is a village in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland, strategically located on an ancient trade route between Lwówek Śląski and Bolesławiec territories since at least 1217, when it appeared in Lwówek's founding document as a border guard post called "die Warte" with an inn.
It features ruins of the Gwiezdny Zamek (Star Castle or Sternberg), likely a late 14th-15th century medieval fortress on an artificial hill with a 15x21.5-meter courtyard, double moats, and ramparts, possibly built by local knights like those from Warta and later approved to the Zedlitz family by Emperor Sigismund in 1426, with legends linking it underground to Grodziec Castle.
Nearby stands a Renaissance manor house erected around 1540 by Hans von Zedlitz, expanded into a Baroque palace over centuries with sgraffito decorations, irregular horseshoe plan, gables, and bay windows, now in ruins reflecting its post-WWII abandonment.
