Wartenstein Castle
Lauperswil, Switzerland, Switzerland
Wartenstein Castle is a medieval ruin situated on a wooded hill with hand-carved terraces above the village of Lauperswil in Switzerland's canton of Bern.
Built in the 13th century by the lords of Ruoderswil to replace an earlier fortress, it featured a main structure with a tower, courtyard, and great hall on the southern terrace, serving as a noble residence until Knight Swaro von Wartenstein sold it to Trub monastery in 1284.
Abandoned after changing hands, the site preserves inner walls and tower foundations as a key piece of regional heritage, reachable by a short marked hiking trail through the forest.
