Wat Pha Bat Tai
Luang Prabang, Laos
Wat Pha Bat Tai, also known as Wat Phra Bat Tai or Chua Phat Tich, is a historic Buddhist temple in Luang Prabang, Laos, located on the banks of the Mekong River.
Originally established as a wooden temple in the 17th century, it was later rebuilt and developed into a distinctive religious site with strong Vietnamese architectural influences, reflecting its historical connection to the local Vietnamese community. The temple is known for its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful river views, and collection of Buddha images, including a reclining Buddha and a sacred Buddha footprint near the riverbank.
Unlike some of Luang Prabang’s more crowded temples, it offers visitors a quieter and more contemplative experience. Today, Wat Pha Bat Tai remains an active place of worship and a cultural landmark where visitors can appreciate religious traditions, distinctive architecture, and scenic views of the Mekong in a tranquil setting.
