White Island
Philippines , Philippines
White Island is an uninhabited white sandbar located about 1.4 kilometers off the northern shore of Mambajao on the volcanic island of Camiguin in the Philippines.
Technically a sandbar rather than a true island, it is generally horseshoe-shaped with its exact form constantly changing due to tides, erosion, and occasional sand theft, and it actually disappears at high tide. The island is composed solely of fine, powdery white sands with no trees or shelter of any kind—there is literally nothing but pure white sand surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters, making it a surreal, photogenic paradise perfect for Instagram and Facebook photos.
White Island attracts thousands of tourists every year and offers stunning panoramic views of Mount Hibok-Hibok volcano in the background, along with excellent snorkeling opportunities, resident sea turtles, and nice snorkeling spots in the clear waters around it. Visitors can rent umbrellas for 100 pesos and snorkel gear, and water socks are suggested since the sand can get hot under the intense sun at midday, though the water temperature is a comfortable 70°F (21°C).
The sandbar can be accessed via small boats costing around 450 pesos for up to four people from Barangay Agoho or Brgy. Yumbing in Mambajao, with boats leaving from next to Paras Beach Resort in Yumbing, and the last trip departs at 4pm. It is best to visit early in the morning to avoid the brutal midday sun and large crowds, making it one of the most beautiful and iconic beach destinations in the Philippines.
