Serbia
Serbia is a landlocked country in Southeastern and Central Europe, located in the Balkans and surrounded by Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro. Its capital and largest city is Belgrade. Serbia has a population of around 6.6 to 7 million people.
The country has a rich history that includes periods under medieval Serbian states, Ottoman and Habsburg rule, and membership in Yugoslavia throughout the 20th century. Following the breakup of Yugoslavia and a brief union with Montenegro, Serbia became an independent nation in 2006.
The official language is Serbian, and the predominant religion is Orthodox Christianity. Today, Serbia is a parliamentary democracy with a developing economy, and its culture is known for its historical depth and diverse influences.
