St. Vincent & Grenadines
St. Vincent and the Grenadines is an island nation in the southeast Caribbean, comprised of the main island of St. Vincent and a chain of smaller Grenadine islands. The capital is Kingstown, and English is the official language, with Vincentian Creole also spoken.
The country has a population of around 110,000 and primarily descends from enslaved Africans. Its landscape features lush mountains and the active La Soufrière volcano, which last erupted in 2021, causing widespread evacuations and international aid responses.
The country achieved independence from the UK in 1979 and remains a constitutional monarchy. The economy historically depended on bananas, but tourism and efforts at diversification are increasing. St. Vincent and the Grenadines is a member of the Commonwealth and maintains a multi-party democratic system.
