Altes Schloss Krauchenwies
Krauchenwies, Germany, Germany
Altes Schloss Krauchenwies in Krauchenwies, Germany, traces its origins to a medieval water castle first documented in 1303 as a tower of the Lords of Leiterberg, later rebuilt from 1595-1597 as a Renaissance palace by Count Karl II von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen before destruction in the Thirty Years' War.
Transformed between 1769-1785 into its current early Classical three-winged U-shaped structure with hipped roofs, a chapel, and wappen-adorned gables under Prince Karl Friedrich, it served as a princely summer residence until the 1830s when eclipsed by the adjacent Neues Schloss.
Recently acquired by private owner Josef Alexander Henselmann in 2023 after near-demolition threats, the protected landmark amid the Fürstlich Hohenzollern Park now undergoes restoration for future cultural events.
