Amador Causeway
Panama City, Panama
The Amador Causeway in Panama City, Panama, was built in 1913 using rocks excavated during the construction of the Panama Canal's Culebra Cut, creating a land bridge that links the mainland to four islands: Naos, Perico, Culebra, and Flamenco.
Originally part of a U.S. military complex known as Fort Amador, constructed to protect the Pacific entrance of the canal during World War II, the area never saw combat and was handed over to Panama in 1996. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction featuring scenic walking and biking paths, restaurants, shops, and stunning views of Panama City’s skyline and the Pacific entrance to the canal.
The causeway also serves as a departure point for boat tours to nearby islands such as Taboga and the Pearl Islands. Its transformation from a military installation to a recreational and cultural hub reflects Panama’s rich history, engineering achievement, and vibrant modern life.
