Anglesey Abbey
Lode, England, United Kingdom
Anglesey Abbey is a 17th‑century country house in the village of Lode, about 5 miles northeast of Cambridge, cared for by the National Trust.
It began as an Augustinian priory in the 12th century and was later converted into a private home, acquiring a Jacobean‑style front and a rich collection of furniture, silver, and art. The estate includes some 35 acres of 20th‑century gardens and parkland shaped by the 1st Lord Fairhaven, with formal lawns, a grand herbaceous border, a rose garden, pergola, winter garden, and tree‑lined avenues, as well as a small restored watermill on the River Cam.
The gardens are especially famous for their seasonal displays, including snowdrops in winter, bluebells and tulips in spring, and dahlias and autumn colour later in the year, and the site is popular with families, photographers, and walkers.
