Apamea
Hama Governorate, Syria
Apamea, located in the Hama Governorate of Syria, was one of the most important cities of the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
Founded around 300 BC by Seleucus I Nicator and named after his wife Apama, it grew into a major center of trade, military power, and culture in the Orontes River valley. The site is best known for its spectacular Great Colonnade, a grand avenue stretching nearly 2 kilometers and lined with hundreds of Roman columns, making it one of the longest colonnaded streets in the ancient world.
