Aranybástya, or the Golden Bastion, is a historic site in Budapest’s Buda Castle District that combines centuries of history with modern hospitality.

The name comes from an Ottoman-era defensive structure that once stood on the site and was destroyed during the recapture of Buda in 1686. Archaeological remains of this fortification were later uncovered during restoration work. In the late 19th century, architect Miklós Ybl designed the Neo-Renaissance Lónyay-Hatvany Villa on the location.

The building later became associated with Baron Ferenc Hatvany, whose renowned art collection was housed there. After suffering wartime damage, the villa was rebuilt and carefully restored. Today, Aranybástya is known for its elegant architecture, cultural spaces, and panoramic views over Budapest, including the Danube and Parliament.
