Arboretum Wojsławice
Niemcza, Poland, Poland
Arboretum Wojsławice (Wojsławice Arboretum) is one of the most significant dendrological gardens in Lower Silesia, Poland, located in Wojsławice near Niemcza, 50 km south of Wrocław and 2 km east of historic Niemcza, in the picturesque Strzelińskie-Niemcza Hills protected landscape area at 213–320 meters above sea level.
Covering over 65 hectares, the arboretum houses approximately 2,500 species of trees and shrubs and 3,500 species of other plants, featuring a large collection of rhododendrons, lilies, and hornbeams, and is home to the "European Tree of the Year 2024" at the garden's heart.
The site has a long tradition dating back to 1821 when a romantic park was established there; in 1890, Fritz von Oheimb donated his first rhododendrons to the Wrocław Garden, and in 1977 the Polish Commission of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta ranked the park as an Arboretum, with the entire site (nearly 5 hectares) entered in Poland's cultural monuments register in 1983.
Since 1988, Arboretum Wojsławice has been a branch of the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław, and after being nationalized in 1946 and operated as a state farm, it was transformed into its current form. Visitors can admire seven National Collections, including rhododendrons, peonies, hydrangeas, and the largest collection of daylilies (lilies) in Europe, plus educational paths, natural monuments, a rock and mineral exhibition, a historic farm, and a historic orchard.
