Verified Arg-e Alishah

Tabriz, Iran, Iran

Arg-e Alishah, also known as the Arg of Tabriz, is a large historic ruin in the center of Tabriz, Iran.

It began in the early 14th century as part of an ambitious mosque complex built during the Ilkhanid period, but only the massive south wall survives today because of earthquakes, wars, and later demolition. Over time, the site was used in different ways, including as a military fortress and storage area, which is why it became known as an “arg,” or citadel.
