Babelsberg Palace
Potsdam, Germany, Germany
Babelsberg Palace is a striking neo-Gothic palace in Potsdam that was built between 1833 and 1849 as the summer residence of Prince William of Prussia, who later became German Emperor William I, and his wife Augusta.
Designed by renowned architects Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Ludwig Persius, and Johann Heinrich Strack, the palace was inspired by English Tudor and Gothic architecture. Set within the beautiful Babelsberg Park overlooking the Havel River, the palace became an important center of Prussian political and social life during the 19th century.
The surrounding landscape park, created by Peter Joseph Lenné and later enhanced by Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau, features terraces, lakes, fountains, and scenic viewpoints. Today, Babelsberg Palace and its park form part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin. The site is admired for its romantic architecture, historic significance, and panoramic views of the surrounding waterways and gardens.
