Ballmertshofen Castle

Ballmertshofen Castle is a historic castle located in the village of Ballmertshofen, part of Dischingen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Although a castle on this site was first mentioned in 1236, the present building was largely constructed in the mid-16th century, transforming the earlier medieval fortress into a more comfortable noble residence. Over the centuries, the castle passed through the hands of several noble families, including the von Leonrod, von St. Vincent, and Thurn und Taxis families.

It later served a variety of public functions, including as a school, town hall, prisoner-of-war camp during World War II, and housing for displaced people after the war. Today, Ballmertshofen Castle is owned by the local community and is best known for housing the Ländliche Bildergalerie, a rural art gallery that regularly hosts exhibitions.
