Batu Caves is a well-known site of natural beauty and Hindu worship located in Gombak, Selangor, just north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The caves are set within a 325-meter high limestone hill, which is thought to be over 400 million years old. This landmark is about 13km from the center of Kuala Lumpur and is easy to reach by train, bus, or car.

The Batu Caves complex is made up of a series of large and small caves, many of which have been turned into Hindu temples and shrines. The most famous of these is the Temple Cave, also called Cathedral Cave, which sits at the top of a long, colorful staircase with 272 steps. As you climb the stairs, you get a close look at the steep limestone cliffs and may spot playful monkeys along the way.

At the foot of the cave stairs stands a striking golden statue of Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war. This statue is about 42.7 meters (140 feet) tall and is one of the largest Murugan statues in the world. It is the most popular symbol of Batu Caves and a major focal point for visitors and pilgrims.

Batu Caves is a major religious site for Malaysians, especially the Tamil Hindu community. It is famous for hosting the annual Thaipusam festival, which draws thousands of devotees and tourists each year. During this celebration, pilgrims perform acts of devotion, music plays, and the entire site comes alive with colorful displays and festivities.

Other attractions include the Ramayana Cave, which displays scenes from Hindu legends, and the Dark Cave, a natural cave filled with unique animals where guided tours are offered. The grounds also feature smaller shrines, statues, and gardens, making it a place of interest for people of all backgrounds.
