Verified Belle Meade Historic Site and Winery

Nashville, Tennessee, USA, United States

Belle Meade Historic Site and Winery, located in Nashville, Tennessee, originated as a log cabin farm purchased by John Harding in 1807 on 250 acres near Richland Creek, which expanded to 5,400 acres under five generations of the Harding-Jackson family and became renowned for breeding top thoroughbred racehorses like the celebrated stallion Iroquois.

The centerpiece is a grand Greek Revival mansion built in 1853, surrounded by preserved outbuildings such as stables, a carriage house, dairy, and the original Harding Cabin, with the site playing a role in the Civil War as Union troops looted it and a skirmish occurred on its lawn during the Battle of Nashville in 1864.

Today, the 30-acre property operates as a museum attraction, non-profit winery producing award-winning wines from Tennessee grapes, and restaurant, offering guided tours that highlight its horse racing legacy, architecture, and the stories of enslaved African Americans who built and sustained it.
