Verified Bellevue Palace

Berlin, Germany, Germany

Bellevue Palace (Schloss Bellevue) is a neoclassical palace in Berlin’s Tiergarten district, built in 1786 for Prince August Ferdinand of Prussia, the youngest brother of Frederick the Great.

Its name, meaning “beautiful view” in French, reflects the scenic outlook it originally offered over the surrounding parkland and the River Spree. Over the centuries, the palace served as a royal residence, museum, guest house, and government building. Although it was heavily damaged during World War II, it was carefully rebuilt in the 1950s.

Since 1994, it has been the official residence of the President of Germany and a key location for state ceremonies and diplomatic events. Today, Bellevue Palace is one of Berlin’s most important political landmarks. Surrounded by a large park near the Bundestag and the Chancellery, it combines historical architecture with its modern role as the symbolic home of Germany’s head of state.
