Blue Lagoon
Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica
Blue Lagoon is one of Jamaica’s most famous natural attractions, located near Port Antonio in Portland Parish.
Surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, the lagoon is known for its remarkably clear blue water, which can shift in color from turquoise to deep sapphire depending on the sunlight and time of day. The lagoon is fed by freshwater springs and connected to the Caribbean Sea, creating a unique mix of warm and cool water currents that make swimming especially refreshing.
Once believed to be bottomless, it has since been measured at roughly 180 feet (about 55 meters) deep. Originally called the “Blue Hole,” it became widely known as the Blue Lagoon after the popularity of the film associated with its name. Today, visitors come to swim, take boat or raft rides, enjoy the peaceful scenery, and experience one of the most picturesque spots on Jamaica’s northeast coast.
