Bodensee-Schloß Maurach
Uhldingen-Mühlhofen, Germany, Germany
Bodensee‑Schloss Maurach is a small baroque‑style building complex located directly on the north shore of Lake Constance, below the pilgrimage church of Birnau in the town of Uhldingen‑Mühlhofen, Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
Despite its name and elegant appearance, it was never a noble residence but originally served as agricultural and ship‑landing buildings for the Cistercian Reichsabtei Salem, with the first documented structures dating back to 1155.
The site was later given its “Schloss” character in the 18th century and, after a fire in 1979, was rebuilt and run by the L‑Bank as a quiet conference and retreat center offering simple accommodation and event spaces, mainly accessible to course participants rather than as a standard tourist castle.
