Botanic Gardens
Belfast, United Kingdom, United Kingdom
Botanic Gardens in Belfast, United Kingdom, is a historic 28-acre Victorian public park established in 1828 by the Belfast Botanic and Horticultural Society as a private garden, later opened to the public in 1895 after purchase by Belfast City Council.
Its standout features include the iconic Palm House, one of the world's earliest curvilinear cast-iron glasshouses completed in 1840 by architect Charles Lanyon and ironmaster Richard Turner, housing exotic palms, orchids, and tropical plants, alongside the restored Tropical Ravine from 1889 showcasing ancient ferns, banana plants, and cinnamon trees in a lush ravine setting.
The gardens also boast one of the UK's longest herbaceous borders, a 1932 rose garden, tree collections like hornbeam-oak, ponds with swans, a Lord Kelvin statue, and spaces for events, concerts, and relaxation near Queen's University.
