Botanischer Erlebnisgarten Altenburg
Altenburg, Germany
The Botanischer Erlebnisgarten Altenburg in Altenburg, Germany, was founded between 1928 and 1930 by sewing machine manufacturer Karl K. Dietrich with landscape designs by Hans Dippel.
It covers about 8,000 square meters and is home to around 3,000 plants, including 150 varieties of Erica, roses, an alpine garden, and a greenhouse. Originally private, the garden came under municipal ownership after World War II and was open to the public, but closed in 2003 due to financial difficulties.
It was restored and reopened in 2006 through efforts of a local gardeners' association and now serves both as a botanical garden and a cultural space. The garden focuses on preserving plant diversity and offers visitors a peaceful place to explore, with a historical significance as a well-maintained example of early 20th-century garden design.
It is open daily during the warmer months and is protected as a historic site.
