Bowood House and Gardens is a large Georgian stately home in Wiltshire, England, set in about 100 acres of parkland originally designed by the famed landscape gardener Lancelot “Capability” Brown.

The house, still the private family seat of the Marquesses of Lansdowne, dates mainly from the 18th century and includes interiors linked to the architect Robert Adam, though a major part of the building was demolished in the mid‑20th century.

The gardens feature formal Italianate terraces, a reflecting lake, woodland areas, and carefully laid‑out lawns and herbaceous borders that change color through the seasons, plus a children’s adventure playground and a Water Garden created in the 1980s with pools, streams, and statues.

Today the estate is partly open to the public and serves as a mixed leisure destination, combining historic‑house atmosphere, landscaped parkland, family‑friendly activities, and a resort hotel.
