Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden, also known as Fővárosi Állat- és Növénykert, is Hungary's oldest and largest zoo, opened on August 9, 1866, and located in Városliget (City Park) in Budapest's 14th district at Zoo Boulevard 6-12.

Spanning 18.4 hectares of nature reserve land designated in 1986, the zoo houses more than 1,000 animal species from all seven continents, including 9,000 unique animals such as elephants, giraffes, big cats, bears, and monkeys, along with over 2,000 different types of plants. 

The zoo is famous for its historic Art Nouveau buildings, including the world-famous Main Gate with elephant decorative motifs, the Elephant House, the Monkey House, and the tropical Palm House, all designed in the Romantic and Art-Nouveau styles by architects Antal Szkalnitzky, Henrik Koch, Károly Kos, and Deszo Zrumeczky. 

As one of the world's leading zoos and a member of the World Network of Zoos, it focuses on wildlife conservation, education, scientific research, and protecting endangered species while welcoming 1 to 1.1 million visitors annually, making it one of Hungary's most visited cultural institutions.
