Burg Abenberg
Abenberg, Germany, Germany
Burg Abenberg is a well-preserved medieval hilltop castle overlooking the town of Abenberg in Bavaria, Germany. Its origins date back to the 11th century, when the Counts of Abenberg built the first fortress, which was later expanded into one of the largest and most impressive castles in the region. After the Abenberg family died out around 1200, the castle passed to the Hohenzollerns and later to the Prince-Bishopric of Eichstätt. Over the centuries, it was enlarged, modified, and used as an administrative center before gradually falling into decline. In the late 19th and 20th centuries, restoration efforts helped save the castle from ruin. Today, Burg Abenberg is a popular cultural attraction featuring museums, historic exhibits, a hotel, and event spaces. Visitors can explore its towers, courtyards, and medieval architecture while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding Franconian countryside.
