Burg Affelstetten
Veringenstadt, Germany, Germany
Burg Affelstetten, also known as Altes Schloss, is the ruin of a small 13th-century spur castle perched on a 650-meter rocky outcrop 500 meters southwest of the former hamlet of Affelstetten near Veringendorf, a district of Veringenstadt in Baden-Württemberg's Sigmaringen district, Germany.
Likely built by the local Affelstetten nobility—first mentioned in 1308 with Hermann von Affelstetten as a witness—it passed through hands like the von Reischach brothers in 1367 and Counts of Werdenberg by 1418 before being abandoned at an unknown date.
Today, scant 9x9-meter bergfried remnants and a neck ditch remain accessible to hikers overlooking the Lauchert Valley, blending seamlessly into the Swabian Jura's rugged terrain near Veringenstadt's main castle.
