Burg Bei Burgweiler
Ostrach, Germany, Germany
Burg bei Burgweiler, often called simply “Die Burg,” is the site of a former high‑medieval water castle on a low hill about 500 meters east of the village of Burgweiler in Ostrach, in the district of Sigmaringen, Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
It was once a noble stronghold, probably first occupied in the 11th century and later held by the Edlen von Gundelfingen before being transferred to the monastery of Salem in 1279, and over the centuries it declined into ruins whose remains lie within today’s parish of Burgweiler.
The wooded hill and the clearly visible U‑shaped moat mark the old castle layout, and an information panel explains the site’s history, while the area now also adjoins the Pfrunger‑Burgweiler Ried nature reserve and is used for local events such as the annual Burgfest organized by the Burgweiler music club.
