Burg Bloßenstaufen is a medieval hilltop castle ruin near Syrgenstein in Bavaria, Germany. Built in the 12th century by the Lords of Bloßenstaufen, it occupied a strategically important position and served as the family’s ancestral seat while helping protect routes through the surrounding region. The castle changed ownership several times before being damaged by warfare. It was burned in 1462 and finally destroyed during the Bavarian War of Succession in 1504. Stones from the ruined fortress were later reused to build nearby Schloss Staufen and other structures. Today, only limited remains survive, most notably the six-meter-high stump of the former keep, known locally as the “Alter Turm” (Old Tower). Despite its ruined state, Burg Bloßenstaufen remains an important historical landmark that offers a glimpse into the medieval history of the Dillingen region.
