Burg Brattenstein, Burghof
Röttingen, Germany, Germany
Burg Brattenstein is a well-preserved medieval castle in the town of Röttingen, Bavaria, located at the northeastern corner of the historic town walls. Built in the 12th or 13th century and first documented in 1230, it was originally owned by the Lords of Hohenlohe before passing to the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg in 1345. Over the centuries, the castle served as a fortified residence, an administrative center, and later a government office. It underwent several expansions and changes, including incorporation into the town’s defenses and the addition of a large tithe barn around 1500. Today, Burg Brattenstein is one of Röttingen’s most important landmarks. Owned by the town, it is best known as the venue for the annual Frankenfestspiele Röttingen open-air theater festival. Its historic courtyard and restored buildings combine medieval heritage with a vibrant cultural atmosphere.
