Burg Ehrenberg
Germany, Germany
Burg Ehrenberg is a medieval castle ruin that was built around 1290 on a hill overlooking the important north-south trade routes near Reutte.
Originally constructed to protect and administer the region, it became a major customs and defensive stronghold controlling movement through the Alpine corridor. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded into the center of a large fortress system that included additional fortifications such as Fort Claudia, the Ehrenberg Klause, and the Schlosskopf fortress.
The complex played a significant military role and was considered one of the most important defensive sites in the region. Today, Burg Ehrenberg is a popular historic attraction known for its impressive ruins, panoramic mountain views, and rich medieval heritage. Visitors can explore the remains of the fortress and learn about more than 700 years of history connected to this remarkable castle complex.
