Burg Falkenberg
Falkenberg, Germany, Germany
Burg Falkenberg is a historic hilltop castle overlooking the town of Falkenberg in Bavaria’s Upper Palatinate region.
Its origins date back nearly a thousand years, with the earliest remains from the 11th century and the first documented mention in 1154. Over the centuries, the castle belonged to several noble families as well as the Waldsassen Monastery, serving as both a defensive stronghold and a prestigious residence. The castle was damaged during the Thirty Years’ War and later fell into decline.
In the 1930s, it was carefully restored by the diplomat Friedrich-Werner Graf von der Schulenburg, who is remembered for his involvement in the resistance against Adolf Hitler. Today, Burg Falkenberg has been transformed into a cultural and tourism center featuring a museum, event spaces, and a hotel. .
