Burg Garz
Temnitztal, Germany, Germany
Burg Garz is a small medieval castle site in the village of Garz, part of Temnitztal in Brandenburg, Germany.
Built around the 13th century, it is best known for its remarkably well-preserved residential tower, which served as a fortified home for the noble von Quast family for several centuries. The tower is constructed from fieldstone and brick, with thick walls and a distinctive polygonal half-timbered stair tower added in 1681.
It is considered a rare and important example of a medieval noble village fortress, a type of structure that has largely disappeared elsewhere in the region. Today, Burg Garz is a protected historic monument and part of a former manor estate. Although modest in size, it offers valuable insight into medieval rural life and local noble history, making it one of Brandenburg’s most distinctive surviving fortified residential towers.
