Burg Güssenburg
Hermaringen, Germany, Germany
Burg Güssenburg is a medieval castle ruin located on a hill above Hermaringen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Built around the mid-14th century, it served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Güssenberg, a noble family that controlled several settlements and castles in the Brenz Valley region. The castle occupied a strategically strong position about 50 meters above the Brenz Valley, protected by steep slopes and reinforced by a massive shield wall and keep.
After passing to the Counts of Helfenstein and later the House of Württemberg, the fortress was destroyed in 1449 during the War of the Cities and was never rebuilt. Today, substantial remains of the castle, including parts of the keep and curtain wall, can still be seen. The site has been carefully preserved and restored over the years, making it a popular historical landmark and an important reminder of the region’s medieval past.
