Burg Hochhaus is a medieval castle ruin located near Hohenaltheim in Bavaria, Germany, on a hill overlooking the surrounding countryside. The fortress was established by the Lords of Hürnheim and is first documented in the 12th and 13th centuries, serving as an important noble stronghold in the region. Over time, the castle was expanded and modernized, but parts of the medieval complex were replaced in the early 18th century by a Baroque residence. A major fire in 1749 and the loss of its administrative role in the early 19th century led to its gradual decline and abandonment. Today, Burg Hochhaus survives as an impressive ruin with remnants of walls, towers, fortifications, and sections of the former palace. Perched above the Ries landscape, it remains a significant historic landmark that reflects the area’s medieval heritage.
