Burg Hohenrechberg is one of the most impressive medieval castle ruins in Baden-Württemberg, situated on a hill near Schwäbisch Gmünd and overlooking the Swabian Alb.

Built between the early and mid-13th century, it served as the ancestral seat of the noble Lords and later Counts of Rechberg, who were closely connected to the Staufer dynasty. The castle played an important political and administrative role for centuries and survived several major conflicts, including the Peasants’ War and the Thirty Years’ War.

Its decline came not through warfare but after a lightning strike caused a devastating fire in 1865, leaving it largely in ruins. Today, Burg Hohenrechberg is a popular visitor attraction known for its well-preserved walls, towers, and stunning panoramic views across the surrounding countryside.
