Burg Homburg am Main, also known as Schloss Homburg, is a historic castle overlooking the Main River in the village of Homburg am Main, part of Triefenstein in Bavaria. Its origins date back to the early Middle Ages, with fortifications on the site existing as early as the 8th century. The castle occupied a strategic position that helped protect regional trade routes and the influence of the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg. Over the centuries, the medieval fortress was expanded and transformed into a more comfortable Renaissance-style residence. In 1568, major rebuilding work gave the complex much of its castle-like appearance, and it later served administrative functions for the Würzburg authorities. Today, the castle is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Main-Spessart region. Perched on a rocky hill above the river and surrounded by vineyards, it is admired for its historic architecture, scenic setting, and strong connection to the history of Homburg am Main.
