Burg Lichtenberg
Oberstenfeld, Germany, Germany
Burg Lichtenberg is a medieval hilltop castle overlooking Oberstenfeld in Baden-Württemberg and is one of the oldest and best-preserved Staufer-era castles in Germany.
First documented in 1197, it was originally the seat of the Lords of Lichtenberg and later became part of the Württemberg territories. The castle passed to the noble von Weiler family in the late 15th century and has remained closely associated with them ever since. Unlike many medieval fortresses, it was never completely destroyed, allowing much of its architecture from the 12th to 15th centuries to survive.
Today, Burg Lichtenberg is a landmark of the Bottwartal region, surrounded by vineyards and offering impressive views of the countryside. Its historic gatehouse, chapel, courtyard, and defensive structures provide a vivid glimpse into medieval life and architecture.
