Burg Ramsberg
Heiligenberg, Germany, Germany
Burg Ramsberg in Heiligenberg, Germany, is a medieval castle ruin at about 657 meters elevation near Großschönach, originally built around 1067 by the Counts of Ramsberg and later expanded in the 15th century.
The round-oval site retains sections of its ring wall integrated into the modern Messnerhaus building, along with the St. Wendelin Chapel blending Romanesque and Gothic styles featuring 1467 frescoes. Damaged during the Thirty Years' War, it now houses a Benedictine monk in the Klause St. Benedikt residential structure and welcomes visitors via a scenic circular hiking trail from the local cemetery through moraine landscapes.
