Burg Rechtenstein
Rechtenstein, Germany, Germany
Burg Rechtenstein is a medieval hilltop castle ruin above the village of Rechtenstein in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, set directly over the Danube at about 550 meters elevation.
It was first built in the 12th century and later became a double castle occupied by different branches of the local nobility before being partly destroyed by an earthquake in 1348 and eventually demolished in 1817, leaving mainly the keep standing. Today, the site is partly in public hands and partly private property, and the remaining ruins offer views over the Danube valley.
