Burg Thierlstein
Cham, Germany, Germany
Burg Thierlstein, also known as Schloss Thierlstein, is a well-preserved medieval castle near Cham in Bavaria.
Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, and it was the ancestral seat of the noble Thierlinger family, who were first documented in the 12th century. The site evolved from a simple fortified tower into a larger castle complex while retaining much of its defensive character. Unlike many castles in the region, Thierlstein largely escaped major destruction from wars and fires.
Over the centuries, it was expanded and adapted into a castle-like residence, while ownership passed through several noble families. Today, the castle remains a prominent landmark with its distinctive keep and historic buildings. It can be admired from the outside and is closely associated with the nearby Schlossbrauerei Thierlstein, which has a long local brewing tradition.
