Burg Veldenstein is a large and well-preserved medieval hilltop castle overlooking the town of Neuhaus an der Pegnitz in Bavaria, Germany. First mentioned in historical records in 1269, it served for centuries as an administrative and residential castle of the Prince-Bishops of Bamberg and became one of the region’s most important fortified strongholds. The castle was significantly expanded during the 15th century, gaining powerful defensive walls, towers, and residential buildings. Despite periods of warfare and changing ownership, much of the complex survived, making it one of the most impressive medieval castles in northern Bavaria. Today, Burg Veldenstein remains a prominent landmark above the Veldensteiner Forest. Its historic architecture, panoramic views, and centuries of history make it a notable attraction and an important part of the cultural heritage of the Pegnitz region.
