Burg Winterstetten
Ingoldingen, Germany, Germany
Burg Winterstetten is a former hilltop castle located above the village of Winterstettenstadt, which belongs to the municipality of Ingoldingen in the district of Biberach, Baden‑Württemberg, Germany.
It was originally built in the 12th century by the local Winterstetten family and later became an important seat of the imperial Schenk (cup‑bearer) officials, especially under Konrad von Winterstetten in the late 12th and early 13th centuries.
Over time the castle passed through the hands of several noble families, including the Habsburgs and the Waldburgs, before it fell into disrepair in the 15th century and was finally demolished in 1759. Today only modest ruins remain, including fragments of the keep and ring wall, and the site is an openly accessible archaeological remnant rather than a fully restored castle.
