Burghausen Castle is a massive medieval fortress in the town of Burghausen in Upper Bavaria, Germany, situated on a narrow mountain ridge above the Salzach River close to the Austrian border.

It is recognized as the longest castle complex in the world, stretching about 1,051 meters along the ridge, with a series of six interconnected courtyards, towers, and defensive walls that evolved from the 11th century onward under the Bavarian dukes, particularly the Wittelsbachs.

The castle served as a ducal residence and border stronghold, later functioning as a prison and garrison, and today it functions as a visitor‑friendly historic site with a museum, exhibitions, and panoramic views over the town and Salzach Valley. Protective battlements, the Gothic inner chapel of St. Elizabeth, the Dürnitz hall, and the former powder tower survive within the long enceinte, making it one of the most impressive castle ensembles in Germany.
