Burgruine Alttrauchburg is one of the best-preserved castle ruins in the Allgäu region, located on a hill above the village of Kleinweiler near Weitnau.

The castle’s origins trace back to the Middle Ages, with its history linked to noble families such as the Lords of Trauchburg and later the powerful House of Waldburg. The fortress was expanded over several centuries and served as an important administrative and residential center.

It endured major historical events, including damage during the German Peasants’ War in 1525 and occupation during the Thirty Years’ War. After the ruling family moved elsewhere, the castle gradually fell into decline and parts of it were later used as a source of building stone. Today, visitors can explore extensive remains of the castle walls, towers, courtyards, and defensive structures.
